Gender Consultants (3) at Nuru Nigeria

Job Summary

The gender consultants will be responsible in facilitating a series of gender awareness workshops and inter-group gender dialogues for the target beneficiaries of the BC-RAD project in selected wards of the three target LGAs of Michika, Gombi and Hong. Other groups targeted for the gender awareness and gender dialogue sessions include traditional and religious leaders, policy-makers and administrators, especially at the LGA level, law enforcement agents, judicial officers and men.

The consultants will adopt a Human Rights and Social and Behavioural Change Communication Strategy to achieve the objectives of the project. The consultants are expected to train selected women beneficiaries in advocacy and negotiation techniques to enable them initiate and sustain their advocacy work on gender equality, long after the programme has ended.

Key Responsibilities

The consultants will be responsible for the following tasks:

Requirement for the Role:

The consultants should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Draft a proposal detailing the strategy and methodologies for delivering the gender awareness workshops, the inter-group dialogues and the advocacy and negotiation trainings.
  • Attend an inception meeting with the Nuru Nigeria and the GIZ
  • Three (3) strategy meetings with Nuru and GIZ in the course of implementation
  • Design and submit a curriculum for each of the gender awareness sessions, detailing issue areas to be addressed and expected outcomes.
  • Design and submit a moderation guide for the inter-group dialogues or delivering all awareness workshops, dialogues and training.
  • Facilitate the gender awareness workshops for each of the groups listed in the implementation guide and the number mentioned.
  • Facilitate the training workshops on advocacy and negotiation.
  • Moderate the dialogues between the groups listed in the implementation guide and the number mentioned.
  • Develop pre and post workshop questionnaires.
  • Documentation of the findings of the pre and post workshop assessments for all the trainings and dialogues
  • Support the establishment of women community advocacy groups.
  • Support the development of at least 10 advocacy plans to enable women engage community leaders and policy makers.
  • Support the establishment of male gender champion clubs where possible.
  • Hold at least three (3) strategy meetings with the Nuru and GIZ teams in the course of implementation to clear expectations and any emerging issues.
  • Submit a midterm report detailing activities, outcomes, challenges and recommendations, three (3) months into implementation
  • Make contributions to the tools for the end of project assessment that will be conducted jointly by Nuru and GIZ.
  • Application of the ‘Do no Harm Principles’ throughout the implementation period

  • Eight (8) dialogue sessions

  • At least five (5) male gender champion clubs
  • Midterm and end of project reports
  • Three (3) strategy meeting with Nuru and GIZ
  • Ten (10) women advocacy groups and an advocacy plan for each group
  • Five (5) gender male champion groups

Competencies and Skills:

The consultants should have Training Expertise with the ability to conduct effective training sessions.

  • Gender Knowledge and Skills. Proficiency in understanding and addressing gender-related issues.
  • Excellent Report Writing Skills. Proficiency in generating well-documented reports.
  • Tool Development Skills. Competency in creating tools for the development of training curricula.
  • A good command of English and Hausa both spoken and written is essential
  • Verifiable extensive experience in the application of gender responsive and gender transformative approaches in Northern Nigeria.
  • Proven expertise in design and Implementation of Gender Equality Programs.
  • Familiarity with Positive Masculinity and He for She approaches and male-involvement methodologies.
  • Experience in the application of Social and Behavioral Change Communication Strategies, especially in extremely sensitive socio-cultural and religious contexts
  • Monitoring and Evaluation Skills

Qualification and Experience:

  • Advanced Degree in Social Sciences, gender studies or any related field.
  • Post Graduate Qualification in Gender and Diversity or related field is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years hands on experience in designing and implementing gender and inclusion programming, conducting gender analysis, experience in gender mainstreaming and program work including field experience.
  • Previous and traceable training Experience. Must have a demonstrable history of conducting training adaptable to trainers needs.
  • Mandatory experience and passion for Gender Equality and Diversity Work
  • Knowledge and experience in working with civil society are an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Local Context and Cultural Sensitivities. Must understand the specific context and cultural nuances in Northern Nigeria.
  • Experience working with government stakeholders, civil society organisations, and traditional leaders.
  • Verifiable Extensive Experience. Demonstrated expertise in applying gender-responsive and gender-transformative approaches in Northern Nigeria.

Timeframe of the Consultancy

December 2023 to September 2024

Supervision and Management

The consultant will report directly to the BC-RAD Project Coordinator

Selection Criteria

The consultants will be selected based on qualifications, experience, proposed methodology, and budget.

Note:

These deliverables are subject to revision and adaptation to the specific requirements of the project. The selected consultants will work closely with the project team to ensure alignment with project goals and objectives.
