Internal Control Officer at Microcima Africa

Primary Relationships
Reports to CEO (hereafter referred to as the “Line Manager”)
Principal Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The role will include, but not be limited to the following responsibilities and accountabilities: Ensures regulatory compliance and adherence to established internal control policies and procedures Conduct follow-up reviews of financial, operational, or regulatory compliance deficiencies noted during audits. Reviews daily operational activities Implements the anti-fraud campaign and assess compliance Conducts risk management assessments of all departments/units/branches Evaluates existing controls, and recommend improvements where deficiencies are identified Conducts investigations of irregularities discovered by or brought to the auditor’s attention. Reviews and appraise the soundness, adequacy and reliability of accounting, data and reports Verify and maintain internal control checks and records including assets tags to ensure safeguard of company assets. Supports process improvements in alignment with internal control framework Stays abreast of changes/updates in regulatory guidelines and implements compliance Prepares monthly report for the CEO/Board Evaluates the business recovery procedures for operational disruptions Review journal entries, disbursement, and reconciliation
Carry out targeted and frequent field reviews of loans disbursed to clients and clients’ businesses to ensure process integrity and detect fraud.
Review processes for operational gaps and process abuses
Review portfolio regularly for income leakage
Keep up to date with the company’s lending protocols.
Reconcile credit files and identify discrepancies and variances
Provide recommendations tied to analysis and assessment of credit risk.

Job Competencies and Capabilities
Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s in accounting or numerate discipline degree.
  • Candidates should possess minimum of 2-3 years’ work experience.
  • Experience in the financial services sector, would be an advantage.
  • Experience in credit and risks analysis
  • Good analytical skills, high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Have advanced Microsoft Excel Skills.
  • Have proven experience within an accounting department.
  • Be an effective team player with a positive attitude. o A track record of constantly looking for ways to do things better.
